The LazenbyPT Comprehensive Guide to Training, Nutrition and Mindset

Thanks to the wonders of the interweb there’s more health and fitness information available than ever but it still seems we can’t get enough of it! Truth be told finding it doesn’t seem to be the problem, it’s navigating the vast ocean for the most useful and up to date stuff that people find difficult. Over the years I’ve been writing this blog I’ve shared a lot of my top internet information sources with you but being a thoughful chap I thought it was would be helpful to stick them all into one super post for ease of reference so that’s what I’m going to do today 🙂

The LazenbyPT Blog

Your first port of call, obviously 🙂 Over the last few years I’ve shared some excellent information with you on here and although you probably all have these posts bookmarked I’ve linked to them for you because I’m kind like that 😀

Training

Edinburgh personal trainer Matt Lazenby squatting

Just beginning training? My post on  Basic Workout Structure will get you off to a great start! 🙂

I’ve shared a lot of my workouts with you. If you work your way through them you can see how my workouts have changed over the years which will give you a great insight into the practical application of periodisation 🙂

Start with this basic 3 day a week workout from September 2011 and then check out this post from January 2012 to see how things looked when Iswitched things up to 4 days a week.

This 3 day a week active rest block workout from July 2012  and is one of the most overlooked and important workouts I’ve shared. Highly recommended! By June I was I back to 4 days a week and September saw me writing my most popular training post Old School Bodybuilding featuring a 4 day a week Shoulders and Back specialization routine.

May 2013’s ‘Hypertrophy Madness!’ is an intense 5 day a week workout as is this post from June 2014.

August 2014 saw my back to 4 days a week for this 10 week block and you can see what I did for the next 10 weeks of what turned into an epic 20 week block here.

I even wrote a piece on cardio here! It’s good as well 🙂

Er, I’m sure that there must be at least one site out there with a vast encyclopedia of fantastic instructional videos but I’ve never looked so I’ve come up a bit short here 🙂 If you know of one by all means stick it in the ‘Comments’ below 🙂

My top training book is still Strength Training Anatomy’ by Frederick Delavier. If any of you want to buy me a copy of his Strength Training Anatomy Workout or Strength Training Anatomy Workout II for Xmas I’ll let you know what I think of them too 😀

Nutrition

Clever cookies is edinburgh personlal trainer Matt Lazenby's number one choice

I’ve knocked up quite a few posts on this subject – here they are if you’re in need of a refresher or you’re new here, in which case hello and welcome aboard 🙂

Want to know how I manage my nutrition? The original CBTNP is here  and I revisited it again here so you can see how I adjusted things over time.

Want to know how to set up your basic nutritional program?  This basic guide has all the information you’ll need! 🙂 This one does as well! 🙂

If you’re looking to become an expert in this field read everything Lyle McDonald has written 🙂

Body Recomposition

The home of Lyle McDonald. You’ll find all the free goodies here and I can wholeheartedly recommend all of Lyle’s books too, especially if you’re looking to get VERY lean 🙂 If you only want to read one make it “A Guide To Flexible Dieting” – it’s the single best book on dieting for fat loss I’ve ever read 🙂

Here’s why I LOVE Lyle 🙂

Science

Want to know why crash dieting may not be so bad after all? Or why weight training may well be the elixir of youth? Read tthis  🙂

Want to keep up to date with the latest scientific research? Do what I do and simply subscribe to Alan Aragon’s Research Review –  I can’t speak highly enough of Alan Aragon. He is an incredibly knowledgable guy but it’s the practical, common sense nature of his information and recommendations that I value most highly.

Mindset

Edinburgh personal trainer Matt Lazenby's favourite bodybuilder Kai Greene

I’ve knocked out quite a few posts on mindset, it’s THE most important factor in success (in any endeavour) IMHO 🙂

Ever wonder why you can’t make the changes you want too? It’s all in your head! Read this and all will be revealed.

Why the exact meaning of words are so important to me and lie at the very heart of the LazenbyPT philosophy? Read this it’s my favourite post ever 🙂

Did you know that you can choose how you think about situations? Check this post to find out how! It’s excellent even if I do say so myself! 🙂

Want to know why you should never, never, never quit? Read the story in this post. I love it! 🙂

Want to know if it really takes 21 days to make a new habit? Read this! 🙂

Find out why getting started isn’t the hardest part by reading this fine post 🙂

Habits underly everything we do and this is by far the best resource I’ve ever found for information on every aspect of them. Simply go here and subscribe. The best possible recommendation I can give you apertaining to Jame’s information is that his is the only mailing list I’ve EVER subscribed to where I not only look forward to getting the emails but read them from beginning to end every single time!

Supplements

This is the best source of information I’ve found –  It’s honest and if you’re a big supplement user this will save you £1000’s, seriously! 🙂

Stretching

My epic trilogy from 2011 is still worth a read. It’s got videos of me too 🙂 You can find the first part here, the second part here and the epic instructional video packed final part is here 🙂

Pop and do all the customary social media shenanigans please and if you’ve got any questions drop me a line 🙂
